Uses the official VTU formula: (CGPA − 0.75) × 10.
The VTU CGPA to percentage formula
Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) does not use the common × 9.5 rule. Its official conversion, used under the CBCS and 2021 schemes, is:
Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10
The − 0.75 is the part students miss. It means VTU percentages come out a few points lower than the generic formula would suggest — so if you have been quoting a × 9.5 figure, it is very likely wrong on your CV.
What is 8.0 CGPA in percentage in VTU?
Plug it in: (8.0 − 0.75) × 10 = 7.25 × 10 = 72.5%. For comparison, the generic × 9.5 rule would give 76% — a 3.5-point overstatement. Always use the VTU formula for anything official.
VTU CGPA to percentage table

| 8.5 | 77.5% |
| 8.0 | 72.5% |

A note on accuracy
VTU has revised its regulations across schemes (CBCS, 2018, 2021), and some marksheets print the percentage directly. Where your official document already states a percentage, use that. Where it only gives CGPA, the (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 formula above is the standard conversion. When in doubt, quote the CGPA and let the reader convert.
